Wow what a day. I basically did my Tri today with all the training I did. To top it off, I had a super busy day with the kids as well. My daughter volunteered at the library dressed as Baby mouse, a park visit occured, shopping for the week was done, and much more. I honestly have no idea how I got it all done, but glad I did. Ran about 2.5 miles today to start my day, did bands at Physio One, and this afternoon I climbed on a bike and busted out 13 miles. Grabbed my kiddos from the park where they were playing and got the wetsuit on. 800 meters in 20 minutes, and than back home, where I crashed in the bathtub. That my friends is what they call bonking. I can vividly remember the first time I bonked after starting training. By the way, why do they call it bonking? This term honestly sounds like something out of a 50 Shades of Grey fanfic. *G* Weird! I digress. The first time this occured to me was way back in January. I had just starting running on the treadmill, and thought that 2 minutes running straight was going to kill me. That day, I had started my day by killing it, in a 60 minute Zumba class at The Body Shop, and then had driven to the Kroc Center to work out. Headed to the pool, and put in 35 minutes, took a shower, and changed into my running clothes. Lifted weights for strength training, and then climbed on the treadmill. Mind you I had just started running and in fact training at all.
To cap it all off, I hadn’t had nearly enough to eat that morning. I had had a bowl of oatmeal and a banana, and a small cliff bar to that point. I hadn’t spoken to anyone about nutrition, and wasn’t aware of what I was doing yet. Got on that treadmill and started running, at about minute 8 I started to feel sick. By minute 10, I was ready to fall of the treadmill, and at minute 12, I stumbled and nearly took the treadmill and myself out. I hadn’t gotten enough nutrition to cover what I had put out, at that point, in energy and so I bonked. I sat on a bench in the Kroc, and tried very hard to not pass out or vomit. Not the best day of my training to be honest. Since then, I have learned a ton about nutrition, not just from my fellow triathletes, but also from my WW’s leader, magazines, books, etc. I cannot begin to tell you how much better I feel at this point. Though I had a bit of a bonk this evening, it was more from exhaustion that anything else. I can’t even believe the levels I can push this once 500 lb body to each and every day. It’s beyond amazing to me, and I cannot wait to see what the future brings to me. I will keep fighting and and changing into the butterfly I was meant to be.
Applause!!!!!! 🙂
