I suspect, today my topic must be making your activity fit into your schedule, even when you’re telling yourself it can’t. It was another busy day for me but in a different kind of way. My husband’s Grandma, who is also my children’s Great-Grandmother (or G-Grandma as she likes to be called) is here from California, for the first time in many, many years. We haven’t seen her since my son was 6 months old (he is now 7), and my daughter was 7 (she’s 13), on a trip to California. So needless to say it’s been a huge amount of time, and we have all been looking forward to it. We decided to have her over for dinner this evening, and being a bit of a perfectionist my house had to be spotless. Pretty sure no one was going to climb under my bed to see that I vaccumed under there, or that my dresser was dust free. Upside of that was had they searched those areas, they would have seen a spotless dresser, and clean carpet. *G* While being a perfectionist, has had it’s upsides in my weight loss journey, it has also kicked my butt, and made me struggle many times. Having a very all or nothing personality, means that when I do start struggling ,I beat myself up for it. I have learned the art of moderation, and with that in mind, I started cleaning my house three days ago, in small pieces. So after cleaning the last of the house, I ran to the grocery store, and started a home cooked meal, one of my favorites to make for company but very time consuming. Vegan Spanakopita, pitas, hummus, and Greek potatoes. Yummy!
I also busted out a craft, that I have been wanting to finish for awhile. We had an awesome visit, and the kids seemed to really enjoy showing off to their G-Grandma. When our family had departed, I had convinced myself that I didn’t need to get my workout in. My trainer often says to me, “Jenny, you’re allowed to have a real life. You don’t have to follow the training schedule exactly.” Also another one of her tidbits, “If you miss a day, absolutely do not do it the next day, just move forward from there.” With those words inside my head, I brushed my teeth, and put my night clothes on. Of course, my husband thwarted, all my carefully laid mental talk, when he walked in the room and said, “So what’s on your schedule today?” He’s my biggest motivator, and with him now being on WW’s, he is even more aware of what I have going on. I informed him I had a run, and next thing you know I am dressed and doing my warm ups. Ran my fastest 1 mile ever on pavement at 13.23, kept running, and I sprinted down our street at a good pace with no pain. Whoohooo!! We turned it into a family event, with the kids on the bikes as well, which motivated me even more. It helps to have someone there motivating you to succeed, though I have pushed myself to go out and do it alone many times as well. I did have time for a run, and I had made up several excuses in my head why I couldn’t get that run in. One of my motto’s is, ‘No Excuses’ and all it took to remind me of that was one question from my husband. Sometimes, we tell ourselves we simply don’t have time to do 20 sit ups, or to take a walk with the dog, or any hundred’s of things each week. Odds are if we just took the time we would find that it was there to take. Butterfly up and out!
