Heck ya, we are in the single digits!! I keep saying this, but I cannot wait for this Tri to happen. I have trained very hard, for a long time, and it’s getting so much closer than when I started. For many months during this process I was straight up terrified of it taking place, especially with the leg injury. At this point I know that I will complete it no matter what. I will cross that finish line even if I have to crawl across it. This is
something that I have wanted since I weighed 400 lbs, and I will do it. Feeling determined, and ready to take this first step on our path to Ironman here in CDA; our home, and the city that helped change our lives forever. As I busted out my bike ride today with legs burning, I had such joy at what we have accomplished. What a truly wonderful experience this has been! Speaking of burning legs, not only were my legs burning, but apparently so was back and arms on that ride. Learned an important lesson today. Sunscreen must be applied to all of your exposed skin in 98 degree weather. Yup, sporting quite the burn this evening but proud of what the family accomplished. Had my fastest bike ride ever today, completed the 13 mile Tri course in 1 hour 13 minutes with bathroom, picture taking, and my seat just moved and must be fixed breaks; and that was in the heat. I am so ready for the bike portion of the race. I did the bike ride while my daughter dressed up as Baby Mouse at the CDA Library for the second time this week and Jacub helped out at the Superhero Academy. What a great and involved summer we are having! After that event we headed to Newfangled, the second of Jacque’s three book clubs this month.
Back home we went, and I busted out a healthy dinner for the family. Out the door to get her, and than off to the Tri Club transition clinic (taught by my amazing coach Megan, in the picture with me below), where I learned how the go through each part of the race. Much needed information. We also were lucky enough to have the Kroc Center there filming the sponsored athletes. If I haven’t mentioned it before, the Kroc Center has been a huge part of this for us. They gave all of us a years membership, personal training sessions, gait analysis, unlimited Tri Classes, and more. Their coaches helped me go from a non swimmer to being confident in the water. I am so thankful for everything they have done for me. To top this all off their photographer and videographers have been taking photos and videos of our journey, and will be there on raceday. They even have a radio controlled helicopter that they will be using to film. At the end of all of this we will be getting a video of our journey. So cool!! After we did a bunch of video stuff, swam, and had the transition clinic, I spent a relaxing and much needed hour at the beach watching the family
play in the water. Also please note that the steps at Independence Point were very slippery today and I was awarded with my first war wound on this journey (the picture shows Bryan, another sponsored athlete with the same wound), a cut leg. Now I think it’s time to go smear more aloe on what my husband is calling my red butterfly wings. Butterfly up and out!
